Hello!
Ever wonder why you can recall a catchy ad but not the product it promotes?
I grew up in a busy home where party games were a big hit. Guessing the ad from a random selection of magazine spreads with brand names carefully extricated was no easy game challenge. Ads can grab our attention visually or emotionally but distract us from their actual message...what they want us to do. ELearning, designed poorly, will similarly miss the mark.
My Story
I design eLearning. Transitioning to the instructional design field from a long career as a second language instructor was likely par for the course, but my insatiable curiosity about the potential of technology to achieve desired learning outcomes was the catalyst. Working in language instruction for over twenty years, I've been a teacher, storyteller, actor, game designer, problem-solver, curriculum developer, online educator, tutor, administrator, and lifelong learner. My instructional methodology places learners at the centre of the learning process, prioritizing their interests and strengths to help me create authentic, task-based learning experiences that enable them to use language effectively and confidently in real-life situations.
I use a similar approach to build engaging and effective eLearning, empathizing with the learner and other key stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and problems and ensure a learning solution that helps them do what they want and need to do. By combining practical and established instructional design principles with my talents as a teacher, I create eLearning solutions that are meaningful and memorable without distracting from targeted performance outcomes.
Living by the axiom “two heads are better than one,” I value the creative solutions resulting from teamwork and collaboration. By incorporating stakeholders' input and leveraging my knowledge of how people learn, I ensure that our combined efforts lead to the design and delivery of truly effective solutions.
